Setting a goal is an art. Most people think they have set goals, but they are more a statement of what they would like rather than an objective to getting something.

The definition of a goal is as follows: “the state of affairs that a plan is intended to achieve and that (when achieved) terminates behavior intended to achieve it; “the ends justify the means”

• Before setting yourself a goal, you need to look at why you are setting that goal in the first place.  What is it about your life that you want to change, and how would achieving this goal help that?
• All goals should have a deadline, it is no point stating you want to achieve something and you don’t put down when you want to achieve it. Too often people create a wish list rather than a goal, because they do not put an end date when they must reach this goal.  What you don’t realise is that your mind will begin to work towards your goal if you give it clear instructions.  If you are clear on your goal, then you will focus on working towards achieving it. If you are unclear on what it is you want to achieve you will not know how to achieve it.
• Goals have to be realistic. If you have a rather large goal, or a goal in the future you may want to break it down into smaller goals where each goal achieved will move you closer to your larger goal.
• It is good to have short term goals and long term goals, there maybe some in the medium term you wish to achieve also. Put these into the relevant segments of short term, long term and medium term.  All should have timescales attached.
• Most important is to TAKE ACTION without taking action you cannot achieve your goal
• Goals should be reviewed to see if you are meeting them.  If you are not meeting them, look at why you are not meeting them.  Do you need to reset your goal? If so go back to the beginning and set a new goal with realistic measures and achievable timescales.

What ever you do on a day to day basis always question, is this activity getting me closer to my goals. Only this way can you ensure you keep focus and are on track to achieving that goal.  Write it down and look at them daily.  Remind yourself of your goals constantly so that each action you take towards them gives you a positive feeling of achieving in the end.

Aces are hard to find

Are you struggling with recruiting quality leaders into your business? Maybe you need to look at how you are presenting yourself and your business. If you are just starting out and have a full time job and are working your home business part time, don’t get stuck in a part time mentality or hobby mentality. Your home business has the potential to become a six figure annual turnover or more. You just have to get into that mindset. If your current employer were interviewing, he would have a job description and be looking to recruit to that job position.

Likewise, for your home business if you are taking this anywhere near serious, do you even have any idea on the type of people you are looking for to join you and expand your company with you. The reason most home businesses fail is due to lack of recruiting leaders into their primary business.
Don’t feel you have to sign up just about anyone into your home business, be fussy with who you want. Treat your home business as if it were a million dollar empire. If you were running such an empire, you would want to be looking for the best. You would be looking for high quality leaders, people who are sure about themselves, what they want, where they want to be in the future, and the drive to get them there.

Now you may start out with ‘jokers’ who on the face of things look like they are going to be great leaders, but then a little further down the line they turn out to be just that’ jokers’, tire kickers. People who may drain your reserves if they become too needy, so you just got to keep going and keep turning over the cards, making those calls until you find the aces.  Now in a pack of 52 cards you are only going to find 4 aces, but there is nothing stopping you turning over more than 52 cards, or adding more packs!

The odds of getting your aces quickly are 13/1. With those odds you need to phone or contact a fair number of people before finding a strong leader. Therefore finding a strong person with good leadership skills is worth the wait and appropriate screening to ensure you have the right person in your team, rather than signing up someone who happens to show some interest, but does not necessarily have the right level of commitment to working on starting up a home business.

So here’s the thing with the recession and the economy at an all time low, there are a lot of managerial type people, supervisors and business owners who are tired of the corporate world, and who want to look for a totally different lifestyle or business to get into. Let’s face it these people are used to leading others, managing and taking charge, making quick and complex decisions, and being committed to doing what it takes to become a success.

SO if you take enough time to find your aces, you can build a strong team of committed people who will look for like minded individuals to join their teams.

Great Video I came across on you tube today with  Anthony Robbins on NBC’s Today SHow about how we can overcome our fears and motivate ourselves to success no matter the situation we come across.

It’s too easy to ignore things when we are in crises, but they only seem to get worse. Anthony Robbins talks about facing your fear and doing something about it. Let’s face it there is always someone, somewhere who is much worse off that you are. We just got to remember that sometimes.

Ha, that’s impossible to get a lead who is not interested in your main product to turn around and purchase something else off you.  This is what I thought a year ago and virtually gave up on those leads where you call them and they say they are not interested in what you have to offer.  All that money you paid advertising your product or service, they managed to fill out a form but then don’t come through as customers or prospects.  So how can you sponsor dead end leads.

Most people do not like being ‘sold’ to, and let’s face it most MLMer’s or Network Marketers  have come across as ‘needy’ and ‘desperate’ in their sales pitch in order to try and obtain online business.  Take a step back will you!  Think about this carefully. If a person has taken the time to complete an online form requesting more information, that is just what they want ‘information’ that will help them make an informed decision.  They don’t want to be ‘sold’ anything at this point.  So don’t go in their heavy handed and sell them a million and one products or services.  THINK!  What is it that they want to achieve. What are they looking for and why, why now.   People respond better if questions are targeted about them and not about a product or service you can offer.

Getting your script right is really important. If you are not sure what you need to say, most network marketing companies have a standard script that you can base your call upon.  But try and personalise this to the way in which you would speak, make sure it is comfortable to you.  The scripts should be used as guides, not to be read out word for word.  That is the mistake of so many new people, and this just feels so ‘fake’ not only to yourself, but to the person on the other end of the call.  Look at what it is you are setting out to achieve on your call.  How you can approach it in a none salesy way?    Build a little rapport with the other person.  Find out about them first.  Then use the information you have just discovered to get them interacting with you.  You have to become a master marketer and understand the psychology of some of these leads, and then apply the art of handling objection to them. (Mike Dillards Black Belt Recruiting is great for this)

Adopt a strong stance and business approach, after all this is your business and you have to ensure that you are utilising your time effectively.  You haven’t got time for small talk, or trying to justify why someone should visit your website or to purchase your products.   They came to YOU, so a few simple questions to quantify if they have read through the website thoroughly or viewed the appropriate material should take priority, and if they haven’t then the priority is for them to go back and view the website again.   The last thing you want on your team is a very needy member, who takes up a lot of your valuable time, and who makes if difficult for you to spend time with those that really deserve your focus.  SO ensure that whoever you bring on your team, they are capable enough to work on their own initiative, after all it will be their own business they are working on.

Leave them your name and contact details, when you make that first contact, so that if they need more information they can come back to you at their leisure.  If you have to book follow ups, do this mutually and don’t try and force someone to get back on the phone with you the next day or two, only if they are ready and willing to do so.
